Jose Aldo was once considered the epitome of success in MMA. While he has had his fair share of struggles and troubles in recent years, he was once world MMA’s pound-for-pound kingpin. Aldo had one of the longest title reigns in MMA history. He has also always been a force to be reckoned with. However, the current UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway broke the invincibility that seemingly surrounded the Brazilian featherweight. ‘Scarface’ has now come out and revealed in an interview that after his second defeat at the hands of Holloway, he did indeed consider retiring from the sport.

Jose Aldo considered retiring in 2017!

Aldo was once ranked the world’s #1 pound-for-pound fighter and was on a herculean seventeen fight win streak before losing the title in a huge upset to “The Notorious” Conor McGregor. He again got back to winning ways by defeating and winning the title back against Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. However, he soon lost the title in his next fight against Max Holloway in a title unification bout at UFC 212 via TKO. He again lost in a similar fashion to Holloway via TKO at UFC 218.

Aldo recently did an interview with Combate. In the interview, he talked about his losses and how he actually considered retiring from the sport in 2017. Here’s what he had to say:

After the fight, I took some time for myself, to think and stay with my family. Two weeks later, I met with my coaches, sat down with everyone. I asked what they thought, if it was time to stop or not. We decided to move forward. The next day I was in the gym.

I think I still have much wood to burn, full capacity to go there and fight for the title again, I still have four fights left in the contract. I want to do at least three this year. I want to get to the third fighting for the title, be champion again. Then, in the future, I think about retiring or not.
