Julio Cesar Chavez wants his son to retire following his loss to Anderson Silva

Julio Cesar Chavez says his son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. did not prepare well for his fight against Anderson Silva and thus lost the fight. He wants his son to retire after disrespecting the boxing community.

Anderson Silva faced Uriah Hall in October 2020 at UFC Fight Night. He lost the fight via TKO in the 4th round. Following the loss, he made a posting in which Silva hinted that this fight was his last fight and he may retire from the sport. On 19 November 2020, the UFC announced that they had released Silva from his UFC contract, which would allow him to negotiate with other promotions.

In March 2021, it was announced that Anderson Silva will make his return to combat sports and will fight in a boxing match against Julio César Chávez Jr.  Chávez Jr missed the contractual weight of 182 lbs after weighing in at 184.4 lbs and forfeited $100,000 of his purse to Silva. Silva then put on a show while fighting a boxing match after nearly 15 years gap between his previous boxing contest. At the end of an amazing performance he got a split decision win over Julio César Chávez Jr. Even after being a huge underdog coming into the fight, Silva showed the world that he still has those spider senses because which he became such great champion in MMA.

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. wants his son to retire

The father of Chavez Jr. was not happy to see his son fail against a retired MMA fighter that to in a boxing match. He seemed very frustrated with the results and most importantly was disappointed with the way his son approached this fight. According to Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. he feels his son underestimated Silva and went to fight him unprepared which is the main cause why his son couldn’t perform well. He also says that he would love to see his son retire happily if he is not going to fight fully prepared.

“I prefer that they retire if they are not going to prepare correctly. They do not prepare in the best way possible to fight,” Chavez Sr. said (via BoxingScene).

Chavez Jr. after the fight wasn’t happy to see the results go the opposite way as he agreed he didn’t perform well but he also said that Silva’s punches even though were landing didn’t do much damage to him. He felt that the fight could have been a draw.

“It could have been a draw,” Chavez Jr. said post-fight ringside. “I failed to throw more punches. He didn’t really do much damage. But it was enough for a draw.”
