UFC Fight Night 146, a.k.a. UFC Wichita is finally in the books now and it is safe to say that it was a rather great event. The main event of the card, a heavyweight battle between two top fan favourite contenders, Derrick Lewis and Junior Dos Santos was extremely entertaining. In the end, JDS came out on top as he finished the fight in the second round via a knockout due to punches. However, the Brazilian wasn’t quite impressed by the American’s antics during the fight. JDS felt that Lewis did some unnecessary complaining to try and take unfair advantage of an accidental illegal eye poke by JDS, even though he wasn’t slightly hurt at all.
In the post-fight press conference, JDS told MMA Junkie that he thought that Lewis was unnecessarily complaining. Though, he revealed that he had full faith in the referee Herb Dean, and that he wouldn’t fall for Lewis’ tricks. Here’s what he had to say:
Derrick Lewis, I could see it in his fights, too, he complains a lot. Every time he got hit or something he complains a lot. I don’t know if he’s trying to take advantage of the moment or something, but he complains a lot. He was telling the ref, ‘My eye.’ It doesn’t make sense. He was fine.
You can see on the camera he was fine. That doesn’t make any sense. But that’s fine. The ref, Herb Dean, he’s the greatest in this business and I trust him and that’s what I told him – that my hands weren’t open.
