Justin Gaethje is planning to have two wins in his next two outings in the Octagon, and it doesn’t matter against whom he clinches the victories.

Oliveira and Fiziev, both make sense to me right now: Justin Gaethje

The former interim UFC Lightweight champion and two-time title contender was last seen in action back in May when Gaethje headlined UFC 274 against Charles Oliveira in his second shot at the 155-pound title.

Even though Oliveira missed weight and was stripped off the title, making only Gaethje eligible to win the belt, ‘Do Bronx’ still came out victorious, as Gaethje tapped out in the first round. In the wake of the defeat, ‘The Highlight’ took some time off from action to undergo nose surgery.

Now post his complete recovery, Gaethje is eyeing a statement return. Even though he has been unable to clinch the divisional title twice, the 34-year-old still believes he can become champion and is etching out his path towards a third crack at the belt- which Gaethje claims to be two back to back wins.

And it doesn’t matter who Gaethje has to take out- be it a rematch against Oliveira, or a fresh contest against 6th ranked lightweight star Rafael Fiziev, Gaethje is ready for anyone in the cage.

“They [Oliveira and Fiziev] both make just as much sense to me right now,” said Gaethje during UFC 281 media day. “I need two wins, doesn’t matter who. They’re gonna be big fights. I don’t wanna fight just anybody, obviously. Both of those guys are possible fights for my next fight.”

“But again, my job is to stay out of my emotions. If I think about those fights, I get emotional, because that’s who we are as humans. I have to put the responsibility on the people that I trust, which is my coach, my manager, and they’re gonna pick the best fight for me, whoever that is.”

Oliveira, since defeating Gaethje, lost to the reigning champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 for the vacant belt. Fiziev, on the other hand, is on a six fight win streak, having defeated Rafael dos Anjos via knockout at UFC Vegas 58 in July.
