“OLIVEIRA VS. GAETHJE IS ON, per UFC president Dana White. The championship fight will take place on May 7, location TBD. What a fight. And Still? And New?”

This fight is a perfect stylistic matchup. Justin Gatehje is the no.1 ranked lightweight contender at the moment. After being knocked down in the first round, Oliveira won the bout by submitting Poirier by standing rear-naked choke in the first minute of the third round.

On the other hand, Justin Gaethje will be fighting for the undisputed title for the second time in his career. He fought Khabib Nurmagomeodv for the lightweight title at UFC 254. He lost the fight via submission in the second round. prior to that loss, he had won the interim lightweight title against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. After his last loss against Khabib, Justin Gaethje took a lay for a year and then came back to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 268. After a back-and-forth fight, Justin Gaethje won the bout via unanimous decision despite knocking Chandler down and nearly finishing him in the second round.

Justin Gaethje has finished 19 of his 23 wins by knockout or technical knockout and has received six Fight of the Night and four Performance of the Night awards in his nine fights in the UFC.
