UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has made a unique proposal and has called out undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. Kamaru Usman has stated that he wants to enter boxing and challenge the pound-for-pound no.1 boxer, Canelo Alvarez. Kamaru is the no.1 pound for pound fighter in the UFC. The fight would make sense considering their dominance in their individual sport. Usman has nearly fought most of the top contenders in his welterweight division. So now Usman is on the hunt for a new challenge that will push him to his limits and a boxing match against Canelo does exactly that. Canelo Alvarez has currently won multiple world championships in four weight classes from light-middleweight to light heavyweight, including unified titles in three of those weight classes and lineal titles in two divisions.

Kamaru Usman in his last fight made his fifth title defense against his arch-rival Colby Covington. He fought Colby in the rematch at UFC 268 and won the fight via decision. He has also defended his title twice against Jorge Masvidal and once against Gilbert Burns. He made his first defense against Colby. Now Kamaru Usman is expected to face Leon Edwards in the summer of 2022.

Recently Kamaru Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz also stated that he wants his fighter to step into the boxing ring and fight the pound for pound no.1 boxer Canelo Alvarez.

“Nov. 6, Kamaru’s going to knock out Colby Covington and after that, I want him to do something crazy,” Abdelaziz said. “I want him to beat up ‘Canelo’ [Alvarez] or somebody, why not? Kamaru, he doesn’t want these fake fights. He wants a real fight and everybody in boxing is boxing these old guys.”

“I was talking to him, he was like, ‘No, I want the pound-for-pound kings of MMA against the pound-for-pound kings of boxing.’ Why not? What does he have to lose? Nothing.”

“Don’t understand me wrong, if Dana White says go ahead and put a hit out on these YouTube guys, we would beat them up. But Kamaru has standards of competition,” Abdelaziz explained. “I think Kamaru will do well. Boxers fighting MMA guys have a hard time. We saw a guy like Conor, who simply has no soul — if he would have had a little more heart, he would have lasted a little bit longer, but he broke. He lasted eight rounds with Floyd [Mayweather].”

“If you tell me Kamaru cannot last with ‘Canelo’ and rough him up, I tell you you’re wrong. I think Kamaru does very well with Canelo. At the end of the day, we just want to do bigger and better things, and of course, we are team players. We also work with Dana and the UFC to do bigger things together as a team. Opportunities come, and if they come, we’re ready.”
