Usman, the former UFC welterweight champion, has recently taken aim at Muhammad, claiming that the newly crowned champion has let the title go to his head.
Kamaru Usman, known as “The Nigerian Nightmare,” reigned over the welterweight division from 2019 until 2022. Leon Edwards brought his dominance to an end in a dramatic knockout at UFC 278. Edwards then defended his title against Colby Covington but was eventually dethroned by Belal Muhammad in a surprising decision victory at UFC 304.
Kamaru Usman’s Critique

Usman remarked, “All of a sudden you’re talking reckless to everybody like you’re this dude… If that is my next fight, then I’m gonna have to go in there and do what I do”.
Usman further elaborated on his feelings during a recent episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast, co-hosted by himself and Henry Cejudo. He emphasized that Muhammad’s behavior is reminiscent of someone who has let success get to their head, comparing it to having one’s first beer.
Belal Muhammad’s Response
Belal Muhammad, known for his resilience and determination, did not take Usman’s comments lightly. He responded by discrediting Usman’s championship reign, pointing out that Usman was protected by the UFC and questioning his legacy. Muhammad’s retort included jabs at Usman’s acting skills and his podcast, showing that he is ready to defend his title both inside and outside the octagon.
As the tension between these two fighters escalates, fans are eagerly anticipating a potential showdown. Muhammad has expressed interest in facing Usman in his first title defense, alongside other top contenders like Shavkat Rakhmonov. Usman, despite his recent losses, remains a formidable opponent and is motivated to reclaim his position at the top of the division.
