To those who have speculated that Kamaru Usman’s knees will give him issues at UFC Atlanta, the UFC legend has answered.
Kamaru Usman, weighing 170 pounds, was the man to beat for a long time. Unfortunately for him, everything changed when Leon Edwards kicked him in the head. After a period of inactivity, many are questioning what the 38-year-old Nigerian Nightmare has left in the mixed martial arts world after he has now lost three straight fights.
Usman will make his Octagon comeback this weekend when he faces off against up-and-coming opponent Joaquin Buckley. Although it is undoubtedly the most significant battle in Buckley’s career, Kamaru will probably view it as simply another workday.
Usman’s knees, which have always been an issue for him, are something that supporters and members of the media have long questioned. The dude wasn’t hesitant to discuss that specific topic during the UFC Atlanta media day.
Usman responds to individuals who are concerned about his knees
“I’m good. Really, really, I’m good,” Usman said. “It’s funny because that’s a running knock — knees, knees, knees! They don’t realize [my] knees were [actually] worse in my first fight in the UFC. My first fight, I was coming in right off the back of a microfracture surgery. Doctors say that’s about an eight-month recovery, and I fought four months after the surgery. I don’t think people realize that it was worse before.
“I know it’s a running joke, everyone likes to joke about it but I’ve been beating people’s asses with [these] knees. So it is what it is. They can say whatever they want. Saturday, we’re going to get in there, he’s going to punch me, I’m going to punch him, and we’re going to see who wins.”
