UFC President Dana White has revealed that the UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has gone through an emergency hand surgery. According to the reports, Kamaru Usman had suffered a major hand injury just three weeks before his title defense against Colby Covington. Kamaru still went on to defeat Colby Covington via decision. He could have pulled out from the fight but instead decided to go into the fight with an injured hand. Now UFC President Dana White has announced that the champ has undergone surgery and will be recovering till the next opponent rises from the stacked welterweight division.

Kamaru Usman last fought Colby Covington in a rematch at UFC 268. The duo had fought before at UFC 245 where Usman won the fight via TKO in round five. That was his first title defense. He has then defended his belt against Jorge Masvidal (twice) and Gilbert Burns.

UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Edwards is “100 percent” next in line for the champion Kamaru Usman.

“That kid’s had a rough run and he deserves it,” White told TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter. “If you look at it, Colby (Covington) lost to him (Usman) twice, Gilbert lost, Leon’s next. He’s No. 3.”

Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards have previously fought in 2015 where Usman had defeated Leon via decision. Leon Edwards last fought Nate Diaz in high profile fight which he won via decision but was rocked badly in the last minute of the fight by Diaz. Leon was then scheduled to fight Jorge Masvidal at UFC 269 but Masvidal pulled out due to an injury and the fight was off the card.

On the other hand, Kamaru Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz recently proposed a unique fight, has he wants Kamaru Usman to take on Israel Adesanya. Ali Abdelaziz stated that Kamaru Usman can fight Israel Adesanya as they both aren’t good fighters. He also revealed that Leon Edwards is next.

“The next victim is Leon Edwards,” Abdelaziz said to TMZ Sports (via MMAFighting). “Great fighter but he will get finished under three rounds. Fact. It’s gonna happen. The welterweight division in the UFC right now is very interesting. Kamaru is gonna beat him. I want him to beat Leon Edwards and then I want him to go fight Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title” Ali Abdelaziz said.

“Listen, these guys, they’re cool but I don’t think they’re best friends,” Abdelaziz said about Usman vs. Adesanya. “If there is enough money for both of them to fight, they will fight in the parking lot. I know how people work. This has nothing to do with loyalty, because these guys, it’s not like they’re training partners or brothers. They’re African brothers and that holds a lot of value … but at the end of the day, I’m Kamaru Usman’s team all the way. I want to see Kamaru Usman, before the end of the road, have two titles. I’m selfish, I’m greedy, and I think Kamaru deserves it” Ali Abdelaziz said.

Ali Abdelaziz has also said that Kamaru Usman will be back in the octagon for International Fight week in July 2022.
