Kayla Harrison, one of the pioneers of women’s MMA, is now a UFC fighter.

The striking announcement was made by Dana White in the late hours of Tuesday. Taking to X, the UFC prez announced that Harrison, the former PFL Lightweight Champion is now a part of the UFC roster.

On top of that, White also announced a blockbuster matchup for Harrison, as she will be making her promotional debut against former UFC Bantamweight champion Holly Holm in the upcoming landmark UFC 300 event in April, which will also mark the two-time Olympic gold medallist judoka’s first bantamweight bout.

“Holly Holm is one of the baddest women to ever compete in combat sports ever… Holly will be taking on the only person in US history to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in Judo. The UFC has officially signed Kayla Harrison… This will be the first time she’ll be competing at bantamweight,” said White in the clip.

Would Kayla Harrison bring Ronda Rousey back to the UFC?

While Harrion’s UFC signing has been something the fans have been wanting for years, there’s one icon who has been desired to be seen back under the banner of the promotion, and its none other than Ronda Rousey.

The inaugural UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion from her Strikeforce throne, Rousey’s reign lasted across six title defenses in the UFC, until it was Holm who dethroned “Rowdy” in 2015. Followed by a second consecutive defeat to Amanda Nunes, Rousey parted ways with the promotion and joined WWE.

Even though she remained away from the promotion, Rousey’s name and the UFC have often been linked through multiple rumours over the years, with several speculations claiming that she will eventually return to the promotion.

It was even in July last year when, amidst reports of her WWE departure, Rousey was rumoured to be making a potential return to the UFC. The most recent input came from White himself, as the UFC prez recently spoke to Sportsnet where although he thumbed down Rousey’s chances of fighting at UFC 300, he didn’t entirely dismiss Rousey making a return at some point in the future.

Amanda Nunes looking for her way back into the UFC

While the UFC’s bantamweight division gets warmed up again, the GOAT of women’s MMA has also been trying to find her path back into the promotion where she once dominated the division and that’s none other than Amanda Nunes.

A former two-time UFC Women’s Bantamweight as well as Featherweight Champion, Nunes retired from the fight game after a dominant win over Irene Aldana at UFC 289 in June last year, vacating both of her belts as she wanted to turn her focus on family.

However, the Brazilian hasn’t completely been away from the UFC as she was seen in attendance at UFC 297 this past Saturday, where Nunes saw her vacated Bantamweight belt at stake between Raquel Pennington and Mayra Bueno Silva, with the former being crowned as the new champion. Following the event, Nunes informed ESPN that she has been pondering over making a comeback to the cage.
