In a recent appearance on ESPN’s 5ive Rounds podcast, Kelvin Gastelum opened up on his future goals in the UFC.
Apparently, Gastelum is open to the prospect of going through with yet another fight before he gets a shot at UFC gold. Besides, Gastelum also revealed several other details on what he intends to accomplish in the near future.
Kelvin Gastelum is a former TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) winner, and following his impressive showings in the UFC’s reality show as a Middleweight, he went on to achieve tremendous success in the UFC Welterweight division.
However, Gastelum has experienced severe issues, cutting down to the 170-pound limit—and that in turn has caused the slick wrestle-boxer to miss weight on multiple occasions.
Accoridngly, Gastelum moved up to Middleweight, and has since racked up an impressive resume against elite 185-pounders as well, including Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping.
Here’s what Kelvin Gastelum stated regarding his future goals—
”Just the fight that will get me to the title shot…That’s the fight I want. I know I probably won’t get a title shot next, but I want to fight the No. 1 contender…If it’s at welterweight, I will make the cut. The cut is dreadful and the diet is extreme, but if it’s worth it, I will do it.”
”I would love to fight in Rio, and obviously a fight with (Ronaldo) ‘Jacare’ (Souza) would propel me to where I want to go. I’m scared of that commission. I don’t know what to think of the commission,” Gastelum added.
”I should probably talk to someone in the commission or [UFC vice president of regulatory affairs] Marc Ratner. Hopefully, he’d keep me safe and nothing happens to my [drug] samples. I just don’t know what to think of the commission over there.”
