UFC middleweight contender Kevin Holland has been competing at 185 for quite some time, but his recent appearances inside the Octagon has not been smooth. The record holder for most wins in a calendar year, with five victories in 2020, has been unable to come out victorious this year, with two back to back losses as well as a no contest, in which the former XKO Middleweight Champion ended up unconscious. Having dropped to the 12th position as a middleweight, Kevin Holland believes going down to welterweight is the solution.

I prefer my women a certain size, got to make sure men are a certain size too: Kevin Holland

In his six years as a professional mixed martial artist, Kevin Holland moved back and forth between welterweight and middleweight for the first two years, before settling down as a middleweight fighter since 2017 and since his UFC debut back in 2018, holds an 8- 4 (1 NC) record in the promotion.

Despite five wins in 2020, things have gotten rough for Holland this year. In March, “Trailblazer” lost to Derek Brunson in the main event of UFC Vegas 22, followed by a second defeat against Marvin Vettori headlining UFC Vegas 23 in April. The two consecutive losses followed up with a no contest verdict at UFC Vegas 38 against Kyle Daukaus, in which Holland was knocked unconscious due to clash of heads early in the fight and pulled out from the rematch at UFC Fight Night 197.

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Kevin Holland explained that his wish to ‘get big’ was not working out, as he feels staying at 185 isn’t gong to work after getting ‘humped’ by other middleweights.

“I had that time off after the two losses back-to-back and I bought a bunch of weights and stuff like that,” said Holland, “I got a bad ass weight set for the house. Doing a bunch of lifting. Every time I’d go out of town, I’d book a hotel with the best lifting spots. I’d lift and I was getting into the lifting lifestyle. I’m going to be like Jon Jones, you know what I mean? Big! It just didn’t work out. Could never gain the weight. The more I lifted, the more I eat, the more I sh*t.”

“It never really made a difference but when you get to the top 10, top 15, those guys just know how to use their weight a little better. They like to make love inside the octagon. So you have to watch those types of things,” the 29-year-old went on, “So I prefer my women a certain size when I’m making love so I’ve got to make sure men are a certain size, too. Just make love making a little bit easier.”

“Make no mistake about it, I’m getting humped by these huge ass guys at 185. They’re not doing no damage, they’re just laying on top of me. I go down 170 pounds, if I can get up from these guys who are pretty good wrestlers at 85, I know for sure what I can do at 170,” Holland added.
