Kevin Holland is interested to step in on short notice to fight Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone as his previous opponent Diego Sanchez has pulled out from their fight at UFC Vegas 26 on May 8.
Diego Sanchez had pulled out of his upcoming fight against former teammate Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone with unclear reason by then. But as per recent reports, Sanchez has parted his ways with the promotion and won’t be competing in UFC and will be trying out his luck in some other promotions. Diego Sanchez posted a story yesterday saying that he is finally free from UFC and showed interest in fighting for other promotions like Bellator, ONE FC, and BKFC.
The fight was supposed to be an amazing battle between former teammates and training partners Sanchez and Cerrone as both trained under head coach Greg Jackson. But as the fight won’t take place UFC is trying their best to get a fight for Cerrone. As the fight is just one week away it’s really hard to get an opponent against someone as good as Cerrone.
Kevin Holland for the rescue
While UFC is finding a quick replacement fight for Donald, Kevin Holland was the first to put his name ahead of rest options. Kevin holland in past one year has proved to be a reliable option for the promotion. Any fighter from middleweight or welterweight pulls out Kevin has proved to be a sure resource to step up at such occasions.
As for Cerrone, he will look to get back on track after not having won a single fight in his last five appearances in the UFC. He 0-4-1 in his last five fights with the latest fight with Niko Price which was a draw but later turned to be a no-contest as Price testes positive for marijuana. Cerrone still is one of the best to ever do it. His last few losses have come against some of the heavy-hitters in his division including Mcgregor, Gaethje, Ferguson.
Kevin Holland raised his hand up for this matchup by posting on Instagram.
“I’ll run my ass off I’ll sleep upstairs with my heat maxed out and a suna suit on your a legend nothing but respect @cowboycerrone ! I’ll gladly step up Probably come in around 175 but if the cowboy needs a dog to go along for the ride maybe show you a few tricks….. Call BigMouth @seanshelby @mickmaynard2 @ufc I’d tag the boss but yeah I’m low key on time out love you boss @koreps”
Kevin Holland last fought Marvin Vettori where he replaced Darren Till on short notice. Vettori outpointed Kevin Holland in a unanimous decision in the UFC on ABC 2 headliner. Vettori completely exploited Holland’s wrestling defense and dominated the entire fight using his wrestling offense. Kevin had some moments but nothing significant enough to get the job done.
Holland is now 21-7 in MMA and 8-4 in the UFC and also is on a two-fight losing streak, as he had lost a decision to Derrick Brunson at UFC on ESPN 21. This fight with Donald could be a good opportunity for him to get a win over the fighting veteran.
