UFC middleweight contender Kevin Holland said he wants to fight Mike Perry following his first-round submission win over Charlie Ontiveros.

Taking on late-notice replacement Charlie Ontiveros at UFC Vegas 12, Holland was in complete control on the ground but it was a second takedown that ultimately led to the stoppage. After Ontiveros managed to get back to his feet momentarily, Holland grabbed him and slammed him back down to the canvas.

A second later, the referee stopped the fight after Ontiveros verbally submitted with Kevin later revealing that he heard his opponent say that his neck was injured from the takedown. The official end time came at 2:39 in the first round. Kevin has now won for the fourth straight time and is now 7-1 in his last eight fights.

As soon as the action got started, Kevin rushed forward and brought Ontiveros crashing to the ground as he looked to display his grappling game. Holland connected with some ground and pound while looking for submissions before Ontiveros found a way to get back to his feet for a moment. That’s when the slam brought Ontiveros down to the canvas for the final time as the fight was stopped almost immediately after the fighters fell to the ground. Ontiveros remained down for several moments afterwards as medical personnel eventually needed a stretcher to get him out of the octagon.

Mike Perry

After the fight, Kevin talked about the strategy going into the matchup and what he wants next. “I would love to fight a name. I say I want a name, but it’s whatever the UFC throws my way next. I want ‘Platinum’ (Mike) Perry. Mike, you want to fight? Me and you had a little fun online. I’m the guy. Come on – let’s scrap,” Holland said (via MMAjunkie.com).

“I’ll fight whoever, whenever, however. It doesn’t matter. A fight’s a fight. Styles make fights, but I’ll break it every time. If you’re a good striker, I can grapple a bit. If you’re a good striker, sometimes I can be a great striker. It just boils down to how I’m feeling that night. I wanted to go out there and hit him with some good stuff. I threw something and it slipped. It was sloppy. I said, ‘All right, time to use that black belt.’ So I just turned it over and am thankful it went the way it did.”

Kevin Holland trash talks with Israel Adesanya

As for Holland, he wasted no time turning his attention to UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who was sitting cage side for the fights.

According to Holland, he has a past altercation with Adesanya when he made his UFC debut and he would love to settle that beef one day in the future. “I just don’t play those games,” Holland said about Adesanya. “If you want the smoke, let’s get the smoke.”
