UFC lightweight contender Kevin Lee says he is ready to replace Dustin Poirier who was supposed to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 264 on July 10 but seems like there is some change in that plan.
On Sunday, Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) went public with the information that McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) had not delivered on his commitment to donate $500,000 to The Good Fight Foundation. That irked the Irishman, who said he did not receive a detailed plan on what Poirier intended to do with the money, despite previously acknowledging that it would be used to build a gym in Louisiana to offer free training to the youth in the area.
The situation only intensified from there. After McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar of Paradigm Sports, clashed with Poirier on Twitter early Monday morning, “The Notorious” snapped back by announcing he was no longer interested in the July 10 trilogy fight. He slightly flip-flopped on that threat, then openly accused Poirier of stealing from his charity and said he would be “f*cked” when he’s eventually caught (via Twitter):
“You’re ripped, you inbred hillbilly. Why do you wink with your ears? You f*cking brain dead hillbilly. 500k with no plan in place. Ye hang tight. Fool. You must be new to money. The fight is off btw. I’m going to fight someone else on the 10th. Good luck on your old contract kid.”
My team does their due diligence to make sure every donation meets the mark. My generosity is known. You will pay with your brain for this attempt at smearing my name. Shooting ass shelling ass bitch. Little bitch kicks from a shell. Good luck when you’re caught. You’re fucked.

Kevin Lee now wants to take Poirier’s place
After all the talks many still doubt that McGregor was serious, Kevin Lee sure hopes he was, as he threw his name in the hat as a possible replacement opponent.
I can be ready by July 10th

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Kevin Lee threw his name in the hat for a couple of reasons. First off, fighting McGregor is a massive fight for anyone and a big payday as well. Lee, however, has been vocal for years about his desire to face the Irishman as he is confident he would get his hand raised which would set him up for another big fight.
Although Lee is interested in the fight, as of right now, there is no confirmation that McGregor has indeed backed out of the Poirier trilogy.
It remains to be seen whether the plug actually will be pulled on the UFC 264 headliner, but if not, there appears to be some serious bad blood going into the third encounter between the lightweight contenders, a stark contrast to the goodwill that had been built up between them leading up to the rematch won by Poirier.
