The former UFC interim lightweight title challenge Kevin “The Motown Phenom” Lee has had his fair share of bad, difficult results lately and is currently on a two-fight losing streak. However, he is still adamant that he can give the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov a run for his money and potentially even defeat him. Thus, for now, he is ready to face Nurmagomedov’s training partner Islam Makhachev next to get back into the title picture.
Lee recently told MMA Fighting in an interview that he wants to fight ‘next Khabib’ Makhachev as the co main-event for the next Khabib fight in Moscow, Russia. Here’s what he had to say:
After looking at that last fight with Khabib, I did an interview before Khabib fought Dustin [Poirier] and said I wasn’t too impressed, but after seeing the way Khabib handled Dustin, I might want a piece of that cake. I hear they’re going to Moscow and I hear Islam might want a fight. Me and Islam on a co-main in Moscow sounds good to me. People see him as the next Khabib, he’s coming up. I’ve kind of always had my eye on him. MMA is a very small circle. We know a lot of the same people. I hear rumblings Islam can fight. I’m like, ‘Oh, he can fight? OK. We’ll see.’ Khabib would probably be in his corner. I’ll be training with Georges [St-Pierre]. There are talks of trying to make Khabib and Georges happen. There are a lot of little storylines there. Lot of motivation in a fight like that.
