Numerous media outlets reported on Wednesday that Khabib‘s father was hospitalized in Moscow, Russia. Abdulmanap Nuramgomedov was flown out to Moscow via a special plane after his health deteriorated in his native Dagestan.

He was admitted after a suspected case of pneumonia, but complications arose because of heart problems. The famed coach underwent heart surgery on May 3 and was put in a medically induced coma.

According to a report from RT, Abdulmanap had undergone heart surgery last year. When he fell ill, he visited a doctor who diagnosed him with pneumonia. Despite being advised by the doctors to get tested for Coronavirus, he refused and went about his daily activities. Now it is being revealed that the heart complications came because of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Abdulmanap’s friend Ramazan Rabadanov explained to the media that while he has regained consciousness, his health is still critical.

“He regained consciousness today. He hasn’t yet spoken. Yesterday [Wednesday] he was in a coma after a heart operation,” Rabadanov said speaking to 360 TV.

Khabib Nurmagomedov urged his fellow countrymen to be cautious of Coronavirus

The deteriorating health of his father had a significant impact on Khabib Nurmagomedov. He took to social media and urged his fellow countrymen to take necessary precautions from the Coronavirus. He said that they shouldn’t leave their houses unless it’s essential.

Many hoped that the trouble would not land on their doorstep; many still do not believe in the seriousness of the situation. However, our negligence to the advice and requests of doctors, coupled with the panic created by the people, led to a high rate of spread of the disease, exacerbating the already difficult situation,” Nurmagomedov said on Instagram last month. “The fact is our hospitals are now overcrowded with patients. There are no specialists and not enough medication or supplies, while the number of patients is only growing.

Believe me, the disease is deadly and we already feel it ourselves. By staying at home, we can reduce the burden on doctors and hospitals, and perhaps through our cautiousness, we will save lives. Take care of your loved ones and do not let them leave the house unnecessarily.”

Former UFC lightweight champion and arch-rival of Khabib, Conor McGregor also took to social media and wished his father good health. He said that he will be praying for Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov’s recovery.

Praying for the recovery of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. A man responsible for more World champions, across multiple fighting disciplines, than we even know. A true martial genius! Very saddened upon hearing this news tonight. Praying for the Nurmagomedov family at this time,” McGregor said.
