Former UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov declares that Zabit Magomedsharipov is the best featherweight fighter in the world at this moment.
UFC president Dana White continuously tried to talk him out of it, but Nurmagomedov (29-0 MMA, 13-0 UFC) – who hung up his gloves after submitting Justin Gaethje last October at UFC 254 – stood firm in his decision, which White finally accepted after a meeting Thursday night in Las Vegas.
The passing of Nurmagomedov’s father, coach, and mentor, Abdulmanap, hit him hard, and “The Eagle” promised his mother that he would no longer compete without his father in his corner.
White and Nurmagomedov met on multiple occasions in the past several months to discuss his future, but it appears that their last meeting was conclusive as White declared Nurmagomedov “officially retired,”, praising him for a remarkable career.
In 29 professional fights, Nurmagomedov never lost. He exited the sport in his best form with three straight dominant submission wins over Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Gaethje
White told ESPN that he and Nurmagomedov met in Las Vegas, and the undefeated lightweight champion reiterated he does not intend to fight again. As a result, the UFC is finalizing a lightweight title fight between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira for UFC 262 on May 15, according to White.
Khabib says Zabit is the best featherweight
Khabib Nurmagomedov has moved on from his life of active competition. Now that his reign as champion has officially come to an end, “The Eagle” is focused on coaching, building up the next generation of champions. Many of the fighters Nurmagomedov works with are from his home country of Dagestan, which produces an absurd number of elite MMA fighters given its small population.
Today, Nurmagomedov posted a picture with one such fighter, Zabit Magomedsharipov, and named him the best 145-pound fighter in the world.

This tweet and praising Zabit Magomedsharipov as the best in the world has raised lots of eyebrows in the MMA circuit. Currently ranked as the third-best Featherweight contender, Magomedsharipov is riding a 14-fight win streak, six of which took place inside the Octagon. He last competed in November 2019, taking home the main event victory opposite Calvin Kattar. Since then, Magomedsharipov has been gunning for a match-up with Yair Rodriguez, but repeated cancellations and pullouts have made his picture in the division very unclear and uncertain.
Ahead of him is Brain Ortega who is going to face Alexander Volkonovski, the current featherweight champion of the world. Khabib excluding these two decided to give the best fighter spot to Zabit. And obviously, Khabib forgot the GOAT of the featherweight division Max Holloway who looked like a beast in the last outings against Kattar.
Khabib is just trying to hype up Zabit as he has been out of competition and must get back to training and get a fight soon. To do all this he needed these words of motivation that also coming from one of the all-time best fighters on the face of the planet Khabib Nurmagomedov.
