Former UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has shared a piece of advice with his former title challenger Dustin Poirier who is all set for this second title fight against the newly crowned lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. Khabib Nurmagomedov made his second title defense against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242. The fight was a one-sided affair as Khabib dominated Dustin in the first two rounds of the fight on the ground before submitting him with a rear-naked choke in the third round. Khabib then defended his title against Justin Gatehje at UFC 254 and then announced his retirement from the sport.
Now since Khabib’s departure from the sport, a new champion was crowned as Charles Oliveira defeated Michael Chandler for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 262. Charles Oliveira will be making his first title defense against the no.1 contender of the division Dustin Poirier at UFC 269.
Khabib Nurmagomedov warns Dustin Poirier to be at safe distance from Charles Oliveira
In his recent interview with ESPN, Khabib Nurmagomedov has given out some important pieces of advice for Poirier.
“You cannot go to the Charles Oliveira red zone,” Khabib explained. “This guy is real finisher, he’s very dangerous. I think if Dustin Poirier take him to the deep ocean like he told us, then I think he’s gonna win. But, if he rush, I think Charles Oliveira gonna have a chance.”
Khabib gave this advice in reference to Poirier’s recent interview in which he said he plans to take Charles into the deep waters.
“I would love to for the fight to reach that point where we all find out in front of the world,” Dustin proclaimed. “That’s the goal of mine to get this fight into those deep waters and see who really wants it more, see who is willing to bleed more and leave it all out there because I know I will. No question about it.”
Dustin Poirier is now riding a three-fight win streak with two back-to-back wins over Conor McGregor and one win over Dan Hooker. In his last fight with Conor, Dustin Dominated him on the feet and on the ground. Conor broke his ankle at the end of the first round and Dustin was declared the winner by TKO via doctor stoppage. Charles Oliveira in his last fight knocked out Michael Chandler in the second round to become the UFC lightweight champion. He is riding a 10 fight win streak in the most stacked division in the UFC.
UFC 269 will take place on December 11, 2021, at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area, United States.
