Khabib Nurmagomedov doesn’t thinks Conor McGregor deserves a rematch

Khabib Nurmagomedov doesn’t think that Irish MMA star Conor McGregor deserves a rematch even if UFC president Dana White likes the idea of both fighters fighting each other.

Both McGregor and Nurmagomedov have their next fight next. McGregor is fighting Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 which is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and on the other hand, Khabib is all set to fight Tony Ferguson on April 18 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

A few days ago, Dana White said during an interview with BT Sport that McGregor and Nurmagomedov will likely fight each other if both of them win their respective bouts next.

If Conor can get through Cowboy, and Khabib can get through Tony, then we’d be looking at a rematch between Conor and Khabib down the line,” White said.

Now UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has now responded and said that he doesn’t plan on fighting McGregor anytime soon.

I’m surprised Dana White is saying that if Conor beats Cerrone and I beat Tony Ferguson, there will be a rematch,” Nurmagomedov said at a press conference in Russia (via Chamatkar Sandhu). “I decided who I’m going to fight next… But to think he deserves the lightweight belt, while I’m champion that won’t happen.”

Khabib and McGregor fought last year at UFC 229  and it ended up being the highest selling pay-per-view in UFC history. The fight sold 2.4 million buys and generated over $17 million in ticket sales.

However, since Conor McGregor is fighting at the welterweight limit next month, a fight with Jorge Masvidal is equally a big one and McGregor has expressed interest in fighting him as well.

Conor has this idea too, that if things don’t go his way, he’ll have had a 170 [pound] fight in his pocket again, and [he’s] considering a Masvidal fight,” White told in an interview on Thursday.

We’ll get through the Cowboy fight [first],” White added. “The level of disrespect… People forget that Cowboy has lost two in a row before and come back and gone on unbelievable runs. So let’s not count Cowboy out.” (H/T – BJPenn.com)
