Former UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has presented his point of view on the contract negotiation process of Francis Ngannou with the UFC. Francis Ngannou won the heavyweight championship after defeating Stipe Miocic at UFC 260. After winning the belt Francis was expected to defend his title against Jon Jones who was supposed to make his heavyweight debut. The fight was into the negotiation process but the matchup never got materialized and since then Francis Ngannou had a dispute with the UFC regarding his contract.
In his last fight, Francis Nganonu fought the interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane. Francis won the fight via decision and become the undisputed heavyweight champion. After the fight, Francis Ngannou opened up about his situation with the UFC.
“It’s not simply money,” Ngannou told reporters at the UFC 270 post-fight press conference regarding his contract issues with the UFC. “Obviously, money is a part of it, but it’s also the terms of the contract that I don’t agree with,” Francis Ngannou said.
Francis has revealed that the UFC is not treating him well and he does not feel like a free man working for the UFC.
“I don’t feel like it’s fair. I don’t feel like I’m a free man. I don’t feel like I’ve been treated well. It’s unfortunate that I have to be in this position, that I have to say that. I feel like everyone should have the right to claim for what’s best for them. At the end of the day, we put a lot of work for this job and we take a lot on our body to make it happen, so we can have a fair and square deal” Francis Ngannou said.
Francis has spoken in the past about a career in boxing saying:
“Boxing is always in the back of my pocket,” said Ngannou. “It’s something I must do before the end of my career.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov on Francis Ngannou’s contract dispute
According to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Francis Ngannou should focus on money and should pursue a boxing match.
Former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke with ‘Sky Sports‘ about the potential of a Fury vs Ngannou crossover fight:
“If they fight in the UFC yeah, Fury doesn’t have too many chances,” Nurmagomedov said (h/t The Sun). “But in boxing, I don’t see anyone even touching his face—maybe Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk is going to be a tough challenge for Fury. But Ngannou? I think he has to stay with the UFC. But if he goes to boxing and he’s making 50 or 60 million dollars— he has to. Why not?
“I know Ngannou comes from very, very poor life in Africa. He was with no money, no home, nothing. So if someone pays you more money then go and take.”
