Khabib Nurmagomedov has spoken in support of his former teammate Cain Velasquez, questioning his imprisonment as well as why the person accused of molesting a family member of Velasquez is not behind the bars yet.

He’s the most respectful guy I’ve ever seen in my life: Khabib backs Cain Velasquez

Back in March, Velasquez made headlines after attempting to shoot one Harry Eugene Goularte, a man accused of molesting a four year old relative of the former UFC Heavyweight champion and instead, hit Goularte’s stepfather Paul Bender and is charged with attempted murder and 10 other gun-related charges.

Last week, Velasquez was denied bail for a second time after the judge cited his “reckless disregard for human life.” Khabib, meanwhile, believes anyone who loves their close ones would have taken the same step as Velasquez and questioned why he’s behind bars and Goularte is not.

“Anybody in the world who respects himself, who loves his family is going to do same thing, exactly. Come on, nobody is going to think of law or something when you have something about your family. You have to protect your family. If animals protect their family, of course, humans are going to protect their family,” Khabib said in an interview with TMZ, “They talk about law court about jail, but I don’t understand these things. This is not fair. He sit in jail and other guy is outside. What about other guy? Put this guy in jail too. He’s more dangerous for people than Cain Velasquez.”

Countering the judge’s comment on Velasquez, “The Eagle” opened up on his experience in knowing his former American Kickboxing Academy training partner with whom he has trained for over a decade.

“Never in his life, and he’s 40 years old, never in his life he had problem in social, outside with people, in gym. He’s the most respectful guy I’ve ever seen in my life. I trained with him for more than 10 years. I know his family. Everybody loves Cain. This is his kids. I don’t understand. Ok put him in jail, but what about other guy? He’s more dangerous than Cain. Cain is dangerous for only one guy, but this guy is dangerous for everybody. I don’t understand this,” Khabib added. [H/T MMA Junkie]
