UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was infected by COVID-19.

Now the Dagestani star has revealed that his father is cured of the highly infectious virus, but is still in the ICU.

In an interview with a Russian news station, Khabib revealed that even if his father has been cured of the virus, it has had a long-lasting effect on his kidneys and lungs.

His condition is still serious, he’s still in intensive care,” Nurmagomedov (via RT Sport). “The coronavirus itself is behind him, but the virus has had consequences for his kidneys and his heart.

As for the virus, there’s no need to worry, only about the other consequences.”

Last month his father underwent a heart surgery that arose after complications from getting infected by Coronavirus. Abdulmanap had heart surgery last year and was suffering from pneumonia-like symptoms.

Following this, he was advised by doctors to get tested for Coronavirus, he refused and went about his daily activities. As his conditions worsened he had to be flown into Moscow on a special plane.

Khabib says his father is still unable to speak

Khabib Nurmagomedov hasn’t left his father’s side ever since he was shifted to a hospital in Moscow. He also said that his father hasn’t been able to speak because of the medical devices attached to him.

I visit him, [and] he recognizes me, but there’s no communication because he’s connected to [medical] devices,” Nurmagomedov explained. ”Every day they let me in, I spend half an hour [with him], I hold his hand.

When I ask: ‘Father, do you recognize me?’ He gestures and lets me know.”

He further added that he has full faith in the medical facilities provided by the hospital.

These are some of the best doctors in the world,” Nurmagomedov said. “I have no concerns [about my father’s care], many thanks to them.

In that respect, all’s well. It takes time, because the consequences are very difficult, and the rehabilitation period will be long and tough.” he concluded.

Khabib claims more than 20 people in his family have contracted Covid-19

Last month, Khabib Nurmagomedov took to Instagram and stated that as many as 20 people in his family were infected with COVID-19.

In my personal case, I’ve had more than 20 people sick from my family,” Nurmagomedov said in his Instagram video. “More than 20 people were lying in the ICUs. And many of them are no longer among us. Many acquaintances have died, many parents of my relatives. Everybody is having a hard time dealing with it.

There is a lot written on the internet about my father. My father, right now, is located in a hospital. He is in critical condition as a result of this virus. It impacted his heart because last year he had a surgery there, and right now, they did another surgery. He is in a very difficult situation, very difficult. We are asking Allah that he returns him to us.” (Translated by ESPN)
