Khabib to GSP: Come to lightweight to fight me

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is all set to defend his lightweight title against interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi on September 7.

UFC 242 is the biggest fight of the year and like always Khabib is the huge betting favourite amongst bookies and rightly so considering he is 27-0 and has been dominating the sport from the very beginning. Recently he also said that he is adamant on becoming the greatest lightweight of all time and is least interested in moving up or down in weight classes to win multiple titles.

Despite all of this, he is repeatedly questioned by fans and media about a fight with former welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre. During the UFC 242 open workouts, Khabib has made it clear that GSP fight can only happen if he moves down to lightweight division.

I never talk to the UFC about Georges St-Pierre and they never ask me. I think it is a great matchup against him. He is one of the greatest athletes to ever compete in MMA,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said. “I don’t know [if the fight will happen] because he is retired. If he wants to come back and fight me he has to cut weight and come to [the] lightweight division. I don’t want to fight with him at 165-pound division or welterweight. He moves down [to lightweight] if he wants to fight me. I would move on and I am gonna fight with other opponents.”
