South Korea’s “The Fighting God” Kim Jae Woong wants to continue his quest to become a worthy challenger for the ONE Featherweight World Title by beating former division king Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen at ONE: REVOLUTION on Friday, 24 September.

After putting two of his previous opponents to sleep on the ONE canvas, the Extreme Combat representative is now ready to battle against one of the most feared men in the division.

The match will not only let him test his stand-up skills against a seasoned striker, but a win – if he gets it – would move him one step closer to challenging current ONE Featherweight World Champion Thanh Le.

“I feel that if I defeat Martin Nguyen, then I don’t have much left to do to become the World Champion. I felt this was an opportunity, and that’s one of the reasons why I called him out as well,” the 28-year-old said.

“He’s a fighter who I respected and enjoyed watching even before I joined ONE Championship. He’s already been the World Champion, so I want to beat him, prove myself, and become the best by fighting with the best.”

Kim rose to prominence in The Home Of Martial Arts when he broke down Rafael “Indio” Nunes’ guard with a variety of striking during his promotional debut at ONE: MASTERS OF FATE in November 2019.

Then, in December of last year at ONE: BIG BANG II, “The Fighting God” continued doing what he does best, knocking out Tetsuya “MMA Fantasista” Yamada with hammerfists and punches to earn the second-round victory.

However, he noted that the athletes he has faced were more dominant on the ground, which is why he believes his upcoming match against a striker of Nguyen’s repertoire will further establish his status as a true contender to the featherweight gold.

“Martin is good at curved [punches], but I throw linear and curved [strikes]. In my opinion, I think I have more skills in striking. Nguyen has one right hook, but I have much more options than that, so I think I can beat him with ease,” Kim said.

“I know his strengths and weaknesses a lot more than he knows mine. For a long time, I have contemplated on how to beat him, so this time, I am 200 percent confident.”

Kim also has a plan in place to accompany that level of confidence when he locks horns with the Vietnamese-Australian superstar next Friday.

“I will make sure Martin Nguyen’s chin, temple, and abdomen are the only three parts that I am going for. And with these three parts, I will weaken his mentality by making him faint or roll in pain and give up.”
