Ever since his debut on ONE Friday Fights in 2023, Kongthoranee Sor Sommai has emerged as one of the fastest rising and most electrifying stars in ONE Championship.

Now, the Thai sensation will be up against compatriot and former ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Hama in a rematch headlining ONE Fight Night 31.

This high-profile bout is set to take place inside the fabled Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 3 with stakes higher than ever.

The #3-ranked flyweight Muay Thai contender took charge and unleashed heavy hands on the legend in their last fight.

The fight was extremely close, and the Sor Sommai standout won by split decision. The 28-year-old star felt he had nothing left to prove in his previous performance but aims to win more decisively this time.

“I was happy with my performance in the first fight, but others may have some doubts, so this time I will make it clear,” Kongthoranee said.

Fighting Nong-O is no joke; the legendary Thai striker has over 300 fights under his belt. After ruling the bantamweight division, he dropped down a weightclass but suffered a defeat.

Two-time Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion Kongthoranee believes that to overcome Nong-O, he must be much faster than him.

“I learned that Nong-O has very good timing. The way to deal with him is that I have to be faster than him,” Kongthoranee said.

Defeating a legend comes with its own set of challenges. Following the split-decision win, Kongthoranee faced a wave of criticism from online trolls. He is now determined to silence them with a finish.

“After I received a lot of trash messages, it motivated me to work harder so that no one will think negatively of me anymore. I expect this fight to be fierce, and as I said, if I get the chance to finish, I will go for it,” Kongthoranee said.

ONE Fight Night 31 will be broadcast live on JioHotstar and Star Sports Select 2 at 5:30 a.m. India Standard Time (IST) on Saturday, May 3.
