Labourer’s son wins Gold Medal in Asian Ju Jitsu championship held in Thailand, town raised ₹85,000

After receiving a contribution of Rs 85,000, Jay Prakash of the Rudarpur district of Uttarakhand earned a bronze medal to represent the nation in the Asian Ju-Jitsu (Japanese wrestling) competition. His father Premchandra who is a labourer reportedly shed tears as soon as he learned of his son’s award.

The Asian Championship took place at Bangkok’s Rangsit University Stadium from February 24 through February 28. which had more than 500 players from 30 different nations. Jay Prakash, an international Jiu-Jitsu competitor, had to work hard to win the competition. The amount collected was only 85,000 rupees because of financial limitations. Bharat Bhushan Chug, head of the District Jujitsu Association, contributed to the trips to Thailand taken by Kamal Singh and Jay.

According to coach Rishi Pal Bharti, in the 56 kg division of the Ju-Jitsu Adult Contact competition, Jay Prakash defeated Singaporean Ashoor Ashraf. In the semi-final, he lost to Thai competitor Kaidenen Komrit, earning a bronze medal instead. Kamal fell short there by one point. Vinay Kumar, president of the Indian Jiu-Jitsu Association, praised Jay for earning the medal.
