Indian boxing sensation Lalrinsanga Tlau has defeated Ghana’s Eric Quarm to become the new WBC youth world super featherweight champion.

All the judges scored the fight 80-72, 80-72 and 80-72 in favour of Lalrinsanga Tlau.

The fight took place in Aizawl, Mizoram and was a stream on LPS TV on Pay-per-view. It was a close fight, but the Mizo managed to convincingly defeat the Ghanian on the judges’ scorecards.

Eric Quarm had the height and reach advantage over the Mizo fighter, but Lalrinsanga Tlau showed his superior feet movement and used his impeccable defense to gain an upper hand against Ghanian.

With this WBC youth world super featherweight title under his belt, Lalrinsanga Tlau became the third Indian to hold this youth world title. This win will definitely give Lalrinsanga a significant bump in world rankings.

Former IBF world super featherweight champion Jose Pedraza also once held the WBC Youth World Super Featherweight title. So Lalrinsanga winning this title will also be a significant feat.

Last month, Larinsanga Tlau took on Prince Shrivastava at the Infinity Mall in Malad, Mumbai. The fight was action-packed and Lalrinsanga who was the favourite heading into this fight showed exactly why he is one of the best professional boxers in this weight class. Despite being shorter in height, Lalrinsanga closed the distance and walked down the much bigger man in Prince Srivastava.
