Three months into 2025, the ONE Championship has already seen several historic fights. And Chatri Sityodtong, the CEO and chairman of ONE, is keeping them coming.
Former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon will face current bantamweight kickboxing king Jonathan Haggerty in a trilogy later this year, the promotion’s chairman announced at ONE 172’s post-fight news conference.
Following Rodtang’s victory over Japanese sensation Takeru Segawa at ONE 172 on Sunday, March 23, in front of 15,000 spectators at Japan’s Saitama Super Arena, the news was made.
Thus, Sityodtong anticipates only the greatest and most significant battles for “The Iron Man” in the future.
“Actually, it’s going to be Haggerty. We’re doing Haggerty versus Rodtang, [for the] next one,” Sityodtong said.
“But of course, Rodtang has many fights for him now. You know, he can call his shots now, he’ll fight anybody. Rodtang will fight anybody.”
Jonathan Haggerty is taunted by Rodtang, who says, “Put your belt on the line.”
According to Chatri Sityodtong, former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon and current bantamweight kickboxing monarch Jonathan Haggerty are set to face off in a trilogy that has been planned for six years. And by putting the British gold on the line, he hopes to raise the stakes.
The history of the strikers began in August 2019, when Rodtang won the flyweight Muay Thai gold by a majority vote over “The General.” The Thai sensation then defeated Haggerty in the third round of the rematch in January 2020.
Since then, the two have advanced significantly. Rodtang has established himself as one of the greatest Muay Thai players of all time. Haggerty, meantime, made his debut by winning the Muay Thai and kickboxing titles in the bantamweight division.
More recently, in a biased clinic at ONE 171 in February, he successfully defended his kickboxing title against #1-ranked opponent Wei Rui.
It appears that a clash later this year is imminent now that the two are older, wiser, and more formidable than before. However, Rodtang simply asks that his old adversary offer his crown for sale if that were to occur.
“You wanna face me? Then put your championship belt on the line,” Rodtang said.
