Leon Edwards says Masvidal’s ‘Street Jesus’ persona was a marketing ploy, calls him a journeyman

Top UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards stated that Jorge Masvidal is nothing more than a journeyman and his ‘Street Jesus’ persona was just a marketing ploy.

Leon Edwards who is the no.3 rank UFC welterweight fighter used social media to take a shot at his long time rival Jorge Masvidal. The rivalry began when Edwards said something to Masvidal right after Masvidal had fought against Darren till and won by KO.

The verbal battle quickly turned into a brawl at backstage and was caught on camera as it happened right when Masvidal was doing his interview.

Responding to a clip of Masvidal expressing interest in fighting him, Edwards in his tweet said “I’m ranked above and heading for my 9th win in a row so you know it gets you closer to the title beating me. But keep hiding behind the ‘it does nothing for us’ excuse you and your whole b**** made team keep using cus you know ill f*** you up.”

In his series of tweets, he said “Has everyone realized the whole street Jesus hard man shit was all just marketing yet? and @GamebredFighter is actually as*** journeyman? or people still think he’s good?”

“F*** it Jorge lets fight, no money, mutual location, film it, bang it on YouTube, the public will see your a p**** #letsgetit.”

Jorge Masvidal vs Leon Edwards fight does make sense

Edwards is riding on an amazing eight-fight winning streak in UFC. Leon Edwards last fought in July of 2019 in a unanimous decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos. He was supposed to fight Tyron Woodley at UFC London back in March but the card was scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic and Edwards has not fought since. Edwards and Usman fought during the early preliminary card of UFC on Fox, both fought for fought three rounds and Usman earned the victory by unanimous decision.


Since that loss, Edwards has been on a tear through the division, winning his last eight matches. His most notable victories in the UFC have come in his last three bouts, defeating Donald Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson, and most recently, former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.

Masvidal recently fought at UFC 251 when he took on welterweight champion Usman on a week’s notice. Kamura Usman was set to fight Gilbert Burns, but he had to pull out as he tested positive for COVID-19. The fight went all five championship rounds and Usman won the bout by unanimous decision.

Before that loss, Jorge Masvidal was on a tear of welterweight division with 3 back to back wins which consisted of Nate Diaz doctor stoppage win to win BMF belt and 2 KO wins over Darren Till and a 5-sec flying knee KO win over Ben Askren.

It will be an amazing fight for fans as both of them hate each other and also for the division as no.3 ranked Leon Edwards will fight the no.4 ranked Jorge Masvidal.
