Leon Edwards to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 262

Top UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards is all set to take on Nate Diaz in the co-main event of UFC 262 on May 15 in Houston, Texas.

For the first time in the history of the promotion, a non-title co-main event fight will be scheduled for five rounds.

The news was first revealed by Ariel Helwani of ESPN.

Nate Diaz will return against Leon Edwards in the co-main event of UFC 262 on May 15, sources told @arielhelwani. It will be the first five-round non-title co-main event in UFC history.” ESPN MMA tweeted.

Leon Edwards last fought against Belal Muhammad at UFC Fight Night event earlier this month and the fight ended in a No Contest. In this fight, Leon Edwards accidentally poked in the eye of Muhammad following which he was unable to further continue fighting.

This was Leon Edwards’ first fight in nearly eighteen months. Prior to that he fought against Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC on ESPN 4 and defeated him via unanimous decision. He was also scheduled to fight Tyron Woodley in March, but the fight got cancelled following the global lockdown and travel restrictions because of the surge in coronavirus.

Nate Diaz also reacted to the news of him fighting on the UFC 262 card in Houston.

Check me out may 15th I’ll be headlining #ufc262 in Houston Texas I’ll also have the new UFC lightweight title fight on the card I need people to know these guys are they’ve been working very hard and I can’t wait to see who gets my old. I’ll see uguys there,” Nate Diaz tweeted.
