The highly anticipated welterweight match-up between top contender Leon Edwards and #15 ranked Khamzat Chimaev has been rebooked to headline March 13 fight card.
The News was first reported by Mike Bohn and John Morgan of MMAJunkie.
The fight was previously scheduled to take place on December 19, but Leon Edwards had to pull out of the fight because of Covid-19. The fight was later rescheduled for Jan 20 event in Abu Dhabi, but this time around it was Khamzat Chimaev who contracted the coronavirus.
Khamzat Chimaev vs Leon Edwards set for March 13
Khamzat Chimaev made his UFC debut at the Fight Island in Abu Dhabi last July where he fought John Philips at UFC on ESPN 13 and defeated him via second-round submission.
Khamzat then made a quick turn around and fought within 10-days against Rhys McKee of Ireland and defeated him via TKO in the first round at UFC on ESPN 14. He then took on Gerald Meerschaert at UFC Fight Night 178 last September and knocked him out in just 17-seconds.
On the other hand, this would have been Leon Edwards’ first fight in nearly eighteen months. He last fought against Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC on ESPN 4 and defeated him via unanimous decision. He was also scheduled to fight Tyron Woodley in March, but the fight got cancelled following the global lockdown and travel restrictions because of the surge in coronavirus.
