UFC: Leon Edwards blasts ‘WWE style’ coverage of altercation between Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal

Normally a fighter will get a title shot if he’s on an eight fight winning streak, including a win over a former champion. Unfortunately that’s not the case with #4 ranked welterweight Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards.

Instead, another former champ is headed Edwards’ way as he takes on Tyron Woodley at UFC London on March 22. That being said, Edwards still has his eye on the updates of top tier of his weight class.

Speaking in an interview, Edwards criticized the recent altercation between champ Kamaru Usman and BMF title holder Jorge Masvidal. Edwards accused it to be ‘planned’ to further fuel their rivalry.

“Was it planned? Why are the cameras following him all the way to Usman?,” Edwards said. “… It’s basically planned because they’re walking for like, a minute with a camera behind him. That’s this game we’re in right now, right? It’s the social media era and the WWE era. That’s the way the game is leading at the moment. It is what it is. I’m just focused on my career and doing what I need to do and being what I need to be to achieve what I need to achieve.

“You can tell that’s planned. The camera is walking behind him for a long way before he got to Usman so he was like, ‘Ah, we’re going to go do this.’”

The current UFC welterweight scene especially after the comeback of Conor McGregor, has been flooding with interesting and money making fights. Therefore despite running an eight fight winning streak, Edwards is refrained from the title picture.

Edwards hasn’t had an ‘L’ on his resume since December 2015. He is coming of a lopsided unanimous decision win over former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos.
