MMA Fighter Mohammed Mahboob Khan seeks govt support to continue MMA career

Hyderabad based amateur MMA fighter Mohammed Mahboob Khan is seeking government support to further his MMA career.

In 2018, Mohammed Mahboob Khan created history by becoming the first Indian fighter to win a medal at the IMMAF World Championship. He won the gold medal at 2018 IMMAF World Championship in the Junior Men’s Strawweight Category.

Mahboob Khan who currently trains under head coach Shaik Khalid, defeated Ebrahim Darwish of Bahrain in the first round to win the medal in 2018. Now Mahboob seeks government support to continue his MMA journey so that he can concentrate on bringing laurel to the country.

I was a taxi driver earlier and part-time worker in a clothing store to fulfil the basic needs of my family. My interest in MMA began when I first saw my friend training, and later with the help of my trainer Sheikh Khalid, I have come this far,” Mahboob Khan told ANI in an interview.

It has been only four years training during which at the age of 20 years, I bagged International Gold Medal representing India in 2018 IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation) defeating Bahrain, Kazakhstan, and Australia,” he further said.

I am the first and only Indian who has bagged an Internationa, Gold Medal for the Country in Mixed Martial Arts till now. I request the Government of India to support me to participate in more International fights and win for the country,” Mahboob Khan added. (H/T – ANI News)

Coach Shaik Khalid has continued to support Mahboob Khan

Throughout his MMA career, Mahboob has been supported by his head coach Mahboob Khan who is also the Telangana Association of Mixed Martial Arts Association Head coach.

Mahboob Khan is the only talent who won gold medal for Indian at an Internationa platform. He had a unique journey. He was a taxi driver and now is a world champion and has brought glory to our country in the field of MMA,” Coach Khalid said.

We have supported and sponsored him during his journey. Today MMA is the world’s fastest-growing sport,” he concluded.
