UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka is prepared to lock horns against anyone in the cage, but according to his manager Tim Simpson of Paradigm Sports, his next fight will just be a Glover Teixeira rematch.

Jiri Prochazka’s first title defense is potentially a Glover Teixeira rematch

Back in June at UFC 275 in Singapore, Jiri Prochazka defeated Glover Teixeira via rear naked choke to become the new 205-pound champion. There have been many names that have come up as the Czech fighter’s first title defense.

However, Tim Simpson revealed to MMA Junkie that a rematch with the former champion is likely the way ‘BJP’ will be taking up next, even though the 29-year-old would have been ready for anyone in the division.

“Nothing has been confirmed on who or when yet, but Jiri came out and expressed he wanted to fight Glover,” said Simpson, “and, of course, Glover wants the fight back from my understanding of what the UFC wants. Jiri was really open to fighting anybody. We met with the UFC and Jiri was kind of like, ‘What do you want to do?’ It started trending toward Glover.”

“For Jiri to take that challenge again, it says a lot about him. He’s all about challenge. He says it: ‘What is my greatest challenge at this stage?’ I think that’s a fight that will happen, and we’re just kind of closing in on a date.”

Days after his title clinch, Prochazka revealed that he was disappointed in his performance against the veteran Brazilian and wants to get a more dominating, no-ifs-and-buts victory in the rematch, which Simpson also reiterates.

“Even in the direct aftermath of talking to him inside the cage in Singapore in the octagon, he was disappointed – literally 30 seconds after winning a world title. He wasn’t happy with the performance. I think when it really sunk in, he was really proud of himself. As awesome of a fight it was and as much of the heart he showed, he doesn’t want to fight like that. He wants to be clean,” the manager added.

Last month, MMA Fighting reported that Prochazka vs Teixeira 2 is being targeted by the promotion for a date later this year and UFC 282 on 10th December is being prioritized for the Light Heavyweight title fight.
