Marcin Tybura is just hours away from achieving a career milestone.
On March 16, the UFC Apex in Las Vegas will witness a clash of titans as No. 9-ranked Tai Tuivasa from Australia steps into the octagon against No. 10-ranked Marcin Tybura of Poland. This five-round heavyweight bout promises fireworks, and fight fans are eagerly awaiting the showdown.
The bout, although originally slated for UFC 298 in February, has now been shifted to be a fiver-round main event clash, offering Tybura a unique opportunity- to secure his first UFC main event victory.
Marcin Tybura’s UFC Career
Tybura made his professional debut in 2011, securing a rear-naked choke victory against Robert Marcok. His subsequent wins on the Polish MMA circuit showcased his potential. Notably, he defeated future UFC heavyweight Adam Wieczorek by unanimous decision.
On his UFC debut in April 2016 at UFC Fight Night: Rothwell vs. dos Santos, Tybura lost to Timothy Johnson via unanimous decision, but immediately afterwards, picked up his first UFC win against Viktor Pešta at UFC Fight Night: Rodríguez vs. Caceres in August the same year.
In his eight years under the UFC banner, “Tybur” has marked some notable victories- against the likes of Serghei Spivac, Ben Rothwell, Alexander Romanov, and Blagoy Ivanov. The Polish heavyweight, however, has headlined two UFC events so far, but failed to come out victorious.
UFC Vegas 88- chance at hitting a milestone
In his first UFC main event clash against Fabrício Werdum in November 2017 at UFC Fight Night: Werdum vs. Tybura, Tybura suffered a unanimous decision defeat. In the next one- which remains his latest outing in the Octagon, Tybura was up against Tom Aspinall at UFC Fight Night: Aspinall vs. Tybura in July last year, and suffered a 1st round TKO loss. Aspinall, meanwhile, went onto clinch the interim heavyweight belt against Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 in November.
However, the UFC Vegas 88 main event offers Tybura a third chance at a career milestone. Up against him is “Bam Bam”- coming off a three fight losing skid and hungry for a winning comeback. Will Tybura come out victorious and mark his first UFC main event win?
This fight could go either way. If Tuivasa lands his trademark power shots early, it might be lights out for Tybura. However, if Tybura can weather the storm and impose his grappling game, he could secure a decision victory. As the heavyweight division heats up, this clash between Tai Tuivasa and Marcin Tybura promises excitement, drama, and a potential path to title contention.
