Marlon’s long-time manager Ali Abdelaziz from Dominance MMA revealed the news to The Underground’s John Morgan on Wednesday. The news wasn’t a shock for most of his fans as he wasn’t looking great in many of his past fights and has faced a series of losses. Marlon was riding a four-fight losing streak and had lost most of his fights by TKO/KO which took a huge toll on his career.

“I want to thank everyone – Sean Shelby, Dana White and the UFC for giving me so many opportunities,” Moraes wrote. “I want to thank my family, my coaches, my manager, everybody who has been around and been part of my career. I’m still gonna be around the sport helping young guys and helping my friends. I also want to say thank you to Mark Henry, Ricardo Almeida, Frankie Edgar and Anderson França.”

In April 2017, it was announced that Moraes had signed with the UFC. He made his promotional debut against Raphael Assuncao at UFC 212 on June 3, 2017. He lost the back-and-forth fight via split decision. He then fought John Dodson on November 11, 2017, at UFC Fight Night 120. He won the back-and-forth fight by a split decision.

He then challenged Henry Cejudo on June 8, 2019, at UFC 238 for the vacant UFC Bantamweight Championship. He lost the fight via technical knockout in round three. In his next fight, he challenged former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo. He won the fight via decision but it was a very close fight and could have gone either way.

He then lost four fights back to back against top bantamweight contenders. Cory Sandhagen, Rob Font, Merab Dvalishvili, Song Yadong. In his last fight, Marlon Moraes fought Song Yadong on March 12, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 203. He lost the bout via punches in round one.
