If the UFC 299 setback against Sean O’Malley wasn’t enough of an upset for Marlon Vera, the UFC bantamweight star had some additional harrowing experience to add to the weekend.
Marlon Vera had his home in California broken into
As the fighter himself revealed, “Chito” had his house in California broken into while he was away for the fight.
The 5th ranked 135-pounder locked horns with “Sugar” for his maiden bantamweight title shot in the main event of UFC 299 on 9th March in Miami. A rematch of their UFC 252 encounter from August 2020, the bout went the distance, with O’Malley sweeping up a dominating unanimous decision victory to mark his first UFC bantamweight title defence.
On top of losing his first title shot against a fighter whom he had defeated before, Vera did not expect that there was more trouble in store for him—his home suffered a burglary while he was in Miami for the fight.
On his Instagram story, Vera shared a photo of a broken-in door of his home, along with a text that read: “the f*****g a*****l that broke into my home I’m gonna find you.”

“The context is last night there was a robbery,” wrote Vera separately on social media. “They broke into our house. Though they are material things, they are things that have been bought with a lot of effort and hard work. But hey, these types of things happen and the truth is tonight will be a good one. Tonight the gold belt (as Eli calls it) will be ours. God with us and to the person who did it. I really hope he needed the money for something important. Much love.” [H/T LowKickMMA]
Burglary incidents in the home of fighters, while they are away for events, are not a new thing. Looking back into the past, UFC heavyweight star Ciryl Gane suffered a similar incident in September last year.
“Bon Gamin” suffered a break-in at his home in Nogent-sur-Marne, which is 15 minutes away from the French capital, while he was away to face Sergey Spivak in the UFC Paris main event in Accor Arena on September 2.
