Rising contender Marvin Vettori is all set to fight Jack Hermansson tomorrow in the main event of UFC Vegas 16.
Marvin Vettori came in as a short-notice replacement after Kevin Holland, who was initially supposed to fight Jack Hermansson, but he tested positive for COVID-19 and will now fight at UFC Vegas 17.
Heading into this fight, Marvin Vettori is the betting favourite. He is coming off of a first-round rear-naked choke submission win over Karl Roberson at UFC on ESPN 10 event earlier this year in June. He is currently riding on a three-fight winning streak.
He also has the experience to compete at the top. He had a close encounter with current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya back in 2018. In that fight, Adesanya defeated Marvin Vettori via split decision.
Marvin Vettori can beat Israel Adesanya in a rematch
During the virtual media interview, Marvin Vettori expressed his interest in rematching Israel Adesanya and he believes that he can even beat him.
“I think I’ll beat him,” Vettori said. “I’ll overwhelm him. These guys go in and they underestimate him somehow or they get over their heads to go in overconfident. Adesanya is solid. You have to pressure him in the right way and I learned so much. I watched that fight not too long ago and I realized at that time I didn’t know so much of what he knew, especially in the standup, and I still did so well just by instinct. Now that I see everything that he’s doing and I’ve been studying him for a long time, it’s going to be a whole different game now.
“Even in the standup, I know the things that he’s gonna try to do and I don’t know if he’s gonna know what I’m gonna try to do, but I definitely can see whatever he’s trying to do and plus I have a massive advantage with the grappling. I think it’s going to be a completely different fight.” (H/T – MMAFighting.com)
