Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya created a lot of hype even before his UFC debut. However, his popularity just exploded after his knockout of Rob Wilkinson at UFC 221. He is now all set to face fellow UFC prospect Marvin Vettori. Vettori poses a completely different challenge for “The Last Stylebender”. He is highly well-rounded and has the ability to test Adesanya’s mettle. Their has been a lot of bad blood between the two opponents in recent days. They have constantly been trading insults and have been verbally slamming each other. Vettori is the latest one to trash talk Adesanya and in a recent interview he called the former kickboxer a “chihuahua”.
Marvin Vettori is a young twenty four year old Italian mixed martial artist. He has a MMA record of 13-3-1. All three of his losses have come via close decisions. He made his octagon debut in 2016 at UFC 202 against Alberto Uda. He has a UFC record of 2-1-1. The Italian last fought at UFC 219 against Omari Akhmedov. The fight was just simply too close to call and ended in a majority draw.
He is now scheduled to face Adesanya in the co main event at UFC on Fox 29.
The card will also feature some other high profile fights such as Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje, Carlos Condit vs. Alex Oliveira and Michelle Waterson vs. Cortney Casey. The prelims will have fighters such as Tim Boetsch, Wilson Reis, John Moraga, Brad Tavares, etc. The Indo-Canadian Arjan Singh Bhullar will also compete in his second UFC fight against Adam Wieczorek of Poland.
Vettori was recently in a conversation with MMA Junkie. He compared his upcoming opponent to a chihuahua and himself to a bull dog. Here’s what he had to say:
This is all bullsh-t, man, I didn’t even recognize him. I saw him one time.
Nah. Honestly, I’d say yes (if it were true). That thing didn’t happen, honestly. I wouldn’t have any problem to say if it it did, but I don’t remember it.
He’s a little chihuahua, and I’m the bulldog, man.
We’ll see on Saturday. I’m more than excited for this fight, and I just think I’m way better, That’s it.
