UFC is planning to reschedule Max Holloway vs Yair Rodriguez fight as the main event for the UFC card which will be happening on November 13.
In just the past few days UFC has made some huge fight announcements and they are trying to make many huge fights happen in the coming months. UFC is now targeting to reschedule an intriguing featherweight matchup between Former champion Max Holloway and top contender Yair Rodriguez. Holloway vs. Rodriguez was set to headline UFC on ESPN 26 on July 17. But just a few weeks before the fight Max pulled out of his scheduled fight against Yair due to an injury. UFC was quick to rebook the match but they weren’t getting the proper dates for this fan-favorite fight. But now looks like this amazing fight has finally got a date.
According to UFC president Dana White, Max Holloway and Yair Rodriguez will fight on November 13 at a location and venue to be announced, pending bout finalization. White mentioned the booking in an interview with TSN.
Max lost his featherweight title in his fourth title defense, he faced Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 245. He lost the fight via unanimous decision. He then lost the rematch to Volkanovski at UFC 251. Many people thought that this may be the end of his legendary career but people forgot that Max was just entering his prime.
In his last fight, Max put on a show against top prospect Calvin Kattar. Holloway dominated Kattar for all 5 rounds and won by unanimous decision, with two judges scoring the fight 50–43 and one judge scoring it 50–42 in his favor. During the last two minutes of the fifth round, Holloway landed a two-punch combo and proceeded to stare at the commentary team sitting cage-side and talk to them, while effortlessly dodging Kattar’s strikes.
Holloway set the UFC single-fight records for total strikes landed and attempted, significant strikes landed and attempted, strike differential, distance strikes landed, significant head strikes landed and significant body strikes landed. His fourth-round also set the record for strikes and significant strikes landed.
Rodríguez last faced Jeremy Stephens in a rematch on October 18, 2019, at UFC on ESPN 6 after their first fight ended in a no-contest as Yair accidentally poked Jeremy in the eye which resulted in Jeremy not being able to continue the fight. Yair won the rematch via unanimous decision. In December 2020, UFC anti-doping administrator USADA announced that Rodríguez had been suspended for 6 months for failing to notify USADA of his whereabouts and being unavailable for drug testing.
Nov. 13 lineup includes:
