Max Holloway weighs in on which weight class his future is at after interim LW Title fight at UFC 236

A mouth-watering rematch clash between UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway and top lightweight contender Dustin Poirier is going to take place at UFC 236 less than a week from now for the interim lightweight title at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on 13th April 2019.

This is the second time Holloway and Poirier will meet in the Octagon, they fought each other back in 2012 at UFC 143 and it was Holloway’s UFC debut. Poirier won that fight via triangle armbar submission in the first round.

The current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is serving a nine-month suspension for his involvement at the post-fight brawl which took place at the T-Mobile Arena last October after he submitted Conor McGregor in the fourth round. However, despite his suspension ending early, Khabib had made it clear that he won’t be fighting until November. Therefore there’s no big fight left in the horizon currently and Holloway vs. Poirier seemed to be the best possible option for the UFC.

Holloway recently appeared on MMA on SiriusXM podcast and was asked by the host Luke Thomas, if he will remain at lightweight if he wins the fight.

we will see, you know….there’s a bunch of guys, you [Luke] even talked about certain guys, I think so that the 145 division…I think the other guys have 1 win in the top 10, I think the UFC wants them to bake in the oven a little bit more and we’ll see, we can go on from there,” He said.

UFC knows I am one call away, I tell them all the time, if you guys want me there they would have me there and they send the contract that I thought so was gonna be Tony and when I saw the contract, everything filled up and there was Dustin Poirier, I was blown away but I thought it was cool and signed this.” He said.
