UFC Women’s Flyweight star Maycee Barber (11–2) is not only certain in her mind about becoming a title contender in the next couple of years, but also believes she can clinch gold even if she fights for the title tomorrow.
I’m going to give myself one to two years to improve: Maycee Barber
Barber is currently riding on a three fight win streak and her latest triumph comes in the form of a unanimous decision win over Jessica Eye on the early prelim card at UFC 276 earlier this month.

Even though she was seen as the youngest potential UFC champion after making her Octagon debut at the age of 20, the back to back losses against Roxanne Modafferi and Alexa Grasso put Barber away from title conversations.
However, “The Future” has now racked up three vital wins since the setbacks and is ranked 10th in the division. While speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Barber stated that she sees herself competing for the Flyweight belt, currently under the possession of Valentina Shevchenko, in the next one or two years.
“One to two years [away from being in the title conversation],” said Barber, “Yeah, I saw one to two years, but it’s not many fights. I think it would be two to three fights, but at the same time, I’m going to give myself that one to two years to improve. But honestly, if they gave me the title fight tomorrow, I’d know and I’d truly believe in myself that I could win the title.”
“I’m always going to go for that, but at the same time let’s be realistic. There’s places in my game that can improve. There’s places in my wresling and striking that could be better. I want to make sure that I’m fully prepared for that,” the 24-year-old added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
