McGregor and Poirier verbally agree to a charity fight on Twitter

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier agree to fight each other for a bout that will produce Charity proceeds.

In sudden fashion on the evening of Sept. 28, Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier agreed to face each other in a charity MMA contest outside of the UFC on Dec. 12.

Conor McGregor, who is in talks to box Manny Pacquiao to potentially generate relief funds for the Covid-19 victims, is evidently open for another charity fight. On September 28, Conor McGregor via social media challenged the No.2 Lightweight Dustin Poirier. Dustin Poirier, whose match up against Tony Ferguson derailed midway in talks, has also agreed to fight ‘The Notorious One’ through the same medium. The two have met in the Octagon once before in 2014, in a Featherweight contest, where McGregor scored a TKO victory after just 1 minute and 46 seconds, of Round 1. However, since then Poirier’s graph has only gone upwards, therefore same stats may not repeat.

In recent days, McGregor has come out and stated he had been looking for a fight but was left unhappy with what UFC President Dana White had to offer earlier this year — even going as far as to release private text conversations he and White had.

This included a desire to fight Diego Sanchez against the UFC’s wishes, as well as disagreement over a potential bout with Justin Gaethje (McGregor wanted it in May, White stated it’d have to be July — all of this coming before the COVID-19 pandemic).

McGregor continued to rant on his frustrations with the UFC — which almost certainly played a role in his decision to announce retirement again in June — and it caught the attention of Poirier.

McGregor vs Poirier 2?

McGregor then laid out the details of the charity MMA challenge, and Dustin appears to have accepted. And now, Masvidal has stated he’ll be watching and making a donation to The Good Fight Foundation, the charity of Poirier, his teammate at American Top Team.

While it’s very slim McGregor vs. Dustin actually goes down outside the UFC — thanks to their UFC contracts — it’s worth noting that Dec. 12 is also the scheduled date of UFC 256, rumoured to be headlined by Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns and Amanda Nunes vs. Megan Anderson.
