Former UFC middleweight champion and currently working for the UFC commentary team Michael Bisping has advised Darren Till to move down to the welterweight division where he began his UFC career. After Darren Till faced yet another defeat this time at the hands of Derek Brunson, a lot of questions were raised on his decision to move into the middleweight division. He is 1-2 at the middleweight division and is 1-4 in his last five UFC fights. At UFC fight night 191, Darren was submitted by Brunson in the third round. Till was ahead in the fight before getting submitted.

UFC commentator and analyst Michael Bisping stated that he believed Darren has the best chance to compete and win at his previous division which is the welterweight division. Till got into the UFC and competed at the welterweight class. He even challenged former champion, Tyron Woodley, for the belt.

Speaking to BT Sports following UFC Vegas 36, Bisping was asked about what he thinks Till needs to do to get back to the win column to which Bisping suggested that Till should move back to the welterweight division.

“I think perhaps a move back down to welterweight (is what he needs). When you look at Derek Brunson compared to him, Derek Brunson is a much bigger guy. I’m not talking height-wise. Height-wise, they’re very similar. But when you look at the frame – and with the frame and with that muscle, comes a lot of strength – certainly when you’re fighting guys like Derek Brunson when their whole M.O. is to take you down. Of course, technique comes into play. But a lot of what comes into play is strength. Once you get into these clinch positions, it comes down to power, and Derek kind of outmuscled him in those situations, as well,” Bisping said (h/t MMAunkie.com)

Michael Bisping revealed Darren Till has a torn ACL

Michael also revealed that Darren Till suffered a torn ACL just two months before the fight and still got himself fit enough to get back into the ring and fight Brunson.

“I went backstage to see Darren after the fight, he was very disappointed of course, but he was a man and holding it together,” Bisping said about Till on BT Sport. “He was frustrated and understandably so. I spent about 30 minutes with him and Colin Heron, just talking to him and giving him some advice. Perhaps I’m breaking guy code here but there was an injury coming into that fight, he tore his ACL about 10 weeks ago and he never mentioned it.”

“It’s an excuse, it’s a reason, whatever you want to call it, he never mentioned it and I’m sure Derek had problems as well,” Bisping continued about Till. “Certainly with that kind of injury, and he said he was having all kinds of medical treatment leading up to the fight. Of course, with that injury, it would’ve hampered his performance but still, you can’t take away from Derek Brunson on that night, Darren chose to step in.”
