At Bellator 212, which was promoted as ‘Salute the Troops’ card, Michael Chandler defeated former undefeated lightweight contender Brent Primus in a dominant fashion to become the Bellator Lightweight champion Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Chandler (19-4) used precision striking and takedowns with grinding ground-and-pound on Primus. Chandler nearly managed to knock out Primus in the opening round with sizzling left hooks, but the Oregonian managed to survive the incoming attack. Primus (8-1) rallied in the second, where he rocked Chandler with punches and nearly sank a rear-naked choke.
But throughout the fight, it was Chandler who was dominant and thus ended up beating Brent Primus.
Brent Primus had earlier defeated Chandler via first-round TKO (leg injury) in their last meeting at Bellator NYC on June 24, 2017. This win was a sweet affair for Michael Chandler.
All three judges scored it a sweep: 50-45 in favour of Chandler.
“That was an awesome performance by Brent Primus,” Chandler said. “That guy came in here ready to defend the belt. He is who he says he is. He made me earn every single moment of that fight.”
