Former UFC lightweight title challenger Michael Chandler is the frontrunner to fight the former featherweight and lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, next. Michael Chandler is coming off of a second-round TKO fight win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 274 earlier this month.
Following his TKO win at UFC 274, Chandler cut a WWE-style promo, where he called out the former two-division champion. Conor McGregor has also been hinting about his return to the Octagon.

If you want a knock off me step up and say your piece. I’m still picking who.

Conor McGregor hasn’t fought since UFC 264 which took place in July 2021 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. He lost the fight to Dustin Poirier via TKO in Round 1 due to a leg injury. Prior to this, he fought Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, and in that fight as well he suffered a TKO loss in Round 1.
Michael Chandler ready to fight Conor McGregor in Ireland
In a recent appearance on the podcast ‘Bussin with the Boys‘, Michael Chandler revealed that not only is he the front runner to face Conor McGregor, but he is also willing to cross the Atlantic to fight the Irishman on his home turf.
“I feel like I’m the frontrunner right now, I could be the frontrunner. I’m exciting, I got the hype, I got the people behind me, I got the knockouts, I got the hilbilly fights with Gaethje, I got the callout,” Michael Chandler said on Bussin’ With The Boys. “People can see me on the mic and they know there’s going to be some verbal jiu-jitsu going on there on the microphones, me and him going back at it, respectively, of course, on my side at least… I think I’m on the cusp of being the guy who’s in the conversation with Conor and very few people get in the conversation with Conor. There you have to take it a little more seriously or put a little bit more weight in that. I still think I beat Conor, I’m fighting next for the title anyway. Nothing is guaranteed, this sport moves quickly. Who knows.”
“I think it’s called Croke Park or something, there is a big stadium out there, that they have talked about doing, Croke Park or something like that. That would be awesome too, I would love to go into enemy territory,” Chandler concluded. (H/T – BJPenn)
