Michael Chandler says he wants to fight former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje to prove who’s the most violent fighters in the UFC.

The 34-year-old former Bellator champion Michael Chandler entered the octagon in Abu Dhabi and became the first man to stop Dan Hooker, putting him away in the first round of their fight at UFC 257. Chandler knocked out Dan Hooker in brutal fashion in the co-main event of UFC 257. When it comes to making an impression in your UFC debut, it can’t get any better than what Chandler did. It sure looked like Chandler was going to be the star of the night, but Poirier went and outdid him with a crazy KO over Conor McGregor in the main event. Chandler and Poirier were both rewarded with $50,000 bonuses for their victories.

However, Michael is willing to fight other contenders for the time being and is targeting Justin Gaethje next. And the former Bellator lightweight champion is also hoping to cement his status as the new most violent guy in the UFC in the process.

When Gaethje and Alvarez fought at UFC 218, many fans said the fight would determine who is the most violent fighter in the UFC. Alvarez ended up winning the fight by TKO, but after he left the promotion, and Gaethje went on a KO streak and many considered him the most violent man in the UFC or even in MMA sport overall.

Michael Chandler wants to fight Gaethje

“If I had it my way, it would be Justin Gaethje because it is a fight that excites me and it is a fight that I match up extremely well against Justin Gaethje,” Michael said to ESPN. “You had a guy who I tangled with a couple of times named Eddie Alvarez who beat Justin Gaethje, whenever they fought for the unofficial title of the most violent guy in mixed martial arts. The most violent guy in the UFC. Eddie Alvarez won that fight. I think I’m the new most violent guy in the UFC. If Justin Gaethje wants to prove that, he’s gonna need to step in the Octagon against me.”

Gaethje, the former UFC title challenger and current top contender, believes the title picture at 155 pounds was managed poorly by the UFC and president Dana White in the past few months. Currently, the UFC has yet to strip champion Khabib Nurmagomedov even though he retired back in October, and No. 1 contender Dustin Poirier has expressed discontent and is refusing to fight former Bellator champion Michael Chandler.
