Michelle Waterson is currently riding a hot streak in her career. She defeated Karolina Kowalkiewicz in a key strawweight bout at UFC on ESPN 2.
Following up on her dominant victory Kowalkiewicz, Waterson now wants a title shot. However, standing in her way will be the winner between June’s UFC 238 matchup between Tatiana Suarez and Nina Ansaroff. However, “The Karate Hottie” explains why she deserves the shot over her rivals.
“The case is I’ve been in the top 10 a lot longer than both of them have,” Waterson told reporters, post-fight at UFC on ESPN 2. “I’ve fought all the top girls and I should be next.”
In a night that was full of stoppages, even Karolina admitted that she wanted to finish her Polish opponent. However, Karolina had a better takedown that Waterson expected. Waterson didn’t rank her fight on where it stood in terms of her best victories but she admitted that she had to stay sharp for every minute of the round.
“Every round that we had to go into the next round I knew that I had to stay focused or more focused,” Waterson said. “Karolina is the type of fighter who picks up steam as the roads ago on and I knew I just had to stay focused and try to win.”
