How it all began

Miesha was born on August 18, 1986, in Tacoma, Washington, USA. While still at school, she began to practice in the wrestling section. In 2005, Tate won the state champion title. After a while, Miesha began attending mixed martial arts courses at Central Washington University.

At the amateur level, Tate won 5 victories and conceded one fight. She made her professional debut in 2007. It happened at the one-day women’s HOOKnSHOOT Grand Prix. Strikeforce

On June 27, 2008, Miesha fought her first fight at Strikeforce. She defeated Elaina Maxwell via unanimous decision. In June 2011, Miesha won the Strikeforce championship title thanks to the victory over Marloes Coenen.

After that, Tate had to fight the famous Ronda Rousey. In the first round, Miesha was able to restrain Ronda. However, in the second round, Rousey attempted to do the armbar. Tate was not going to concede and, offering resistance, got a serious arm injury.

UFC

In 2013, Miesha entered into an agreement with the UFC. In her first fight, she was defeated by Cat Zingano by TKO. According to Miesha, the fight was scheduled too early.

Cat, as the winner, was supposed to fight Ronda Rousey, but she was injured and went for surgery. Tate replaced her. The second fight between Miesha and Ronda took place on December 28, 2013 at UFC 168. Tate showed the will to win and an impressive fight, but she lost again with an elbow lever.

After that, Miesha defeated Liz Carmouche and Rin Nakai. In 2015, she took over Sarah McMann and Jessica I.

In 2016, Miesha faced off against UFC champion Holly Holm, who had previously defeated Ronda Rousey. Nobody believed in Tate’s success. She was losing the fight. However, in the last round, she successfully performed a takedown and managed to submit Holm. Unfortunately, Miesha lost the first defense of the won title to Amanda Nunes.

On November 12, 2016, Tate had her last fight in the UFC. She was defeated by Raquel Pennington and ended her MMA career. Miesha had 19 wins and 7 losses on her account.

Post-career life and return

In 2018, Miesha Tate took over as Vice President of ONE Championship. The former athlete participated in the development of women’s MMA in Asia.

Not doing martial arts, Miesha tried to keep herself in shape and continue training. She also gave birth to two children.
